Hazelnut Chocolate Chip Scones

Writer: multivorefamilymultivorefamily

We had never made scones before so we were very impressed with these tasty beauties. Not at all intimidating to make, and a welcome alternative to cookies.

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1.5 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

  • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1-1/2 tsps vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup hazelnuts, coarsely chopped

Preheat oven to 400°. Whisk together first five ingredients; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In another bowl, whisk together egg, buttermilk and vanilla; stir wet ingredients into crumb mixture and combine until moistened. Stir in chocolate chips and hazelnuts.

Place dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently eight times. Shape dough into a circle. Cut into eight wedges or pie like slices; place on a greased baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, 15-20 minutes.
